This site

Accessibility

The target is WCAG 2.1 AA, the same standard the Department of Justice set for public entities in 2024. Here is where the site meets it, where it does not, and what to do if you hit something.

If something is in your way

Tell us and it gets fixed

Write to hello@missionbaypta.org with the page and what happened. You do not need to know the technical name for it. If something on this site is blocking you from information you need today, say so and someone will send you the information directly while the page is being fixed.

This is a volunteer site, so the honest commitment is: a reply within a week, and a fix as fast as whoever picks it up can manage. Barriers that block access to first-day, daily, or forms information jump the queue.

What has been done

  • Every colour pair on the site is checked automatically against the 4.5:1 contrast floor for text and 3:1 for icons. The build fails if a new colour drops below it.
  • Every interactive control is at least 44 by 44 pixels.
  • A skip link to the main content is the first thing a keyboard reaches on every page.
  • The site works at 400% zoom and reflows to a single column on a phone.
  • Photographs carry descriptive alternative text; purely decorative shapes are hidden from screen readers rather than described.
  • Type is set in a variable font at a minimum of 13px, with normal line lengths and no text baked into images.

What has not

The site is only in English

Spanish and Chinese versions of the first-day, daily and forms pages are the next piece of work. Until then, browser translation is the only option, and it will get some of it wrong.

No independent audit

The contrast and target-size checks are automated. Nobody has tested this site with a screen reader end to end, and automated checks catch perhaps a third of real problems.

Linked video is not ours

The Opening Day page links to a video posted by the Mayor's office and to read-aloud videos hosted by Storyline Online. Captions on those are the hosts' responsibility, not ours, and we cannot fix them.

The embedded map

The Google Map on the Contact page is a third-party embed and its keyboard behaviour is Google's. The address is written out in text directly above it so the map is never the only way to get it.

The school and the district

This is not an SFUSD site, so SFUSD's accessibility commitments do not cover it and complaints about this site should come to us rather than to the district. For anything on the district's own pages, see SFUSD's accessibility page ↗. For a disability-related concern about your child's education, including Section 504, contact the school principal and the district's 504 coordinator rather than this site.
